As we mark the true spirit of India celebrating70th anniversary (71st Independence Day) on 15th August, 2017, Indian Independence Day is a huge celebration not only in India, but everywhere where Indian diaspora has a presence and Qatar wasn’t exception at all as we the Indian Meetup Family welcomed the another year of Freedom celebrating it the Independence Day with extravaganza event for the second consecutive year adding Indian culture touch to it.
The large group of members from different cultural background with diverse professions gathered as a Family at 8pm in The Golden Ocean Hotel, Doha for celebrations with patriotic fervor and gaiety. Amongst those present were several young and enthusiastic men and women from different walks of life with dreams in their eyes to make it worth living turned up in I-Day-inspired attire’s and wearing the tricolor – the Indian flag pins to adorn the evening.
Celebrations got started with speech from Hapreet Dev, Co-Admin of IMF bringing in the true spirit with best lines extracts (below), followed by a version of the Indian National Anthem by the group. All new members were asked for their introduction and exchanged greetings with each other even as slogans praising our Mother India in a prevailing spirit of patriotism before dispersing for scrumptious dinner that included an Indian cuisine of Veg and Non Veg combination to suits everyone’s taste buds.
Post dinner, celebrations continued with an opportunity to experience local Indian culture which includes Fashion Show with Indian music and popular Bollywood songs reverberated through the air as every celebrated with a fervor of patriotism, followed by housie game and some of them shared their views and how they feel about being part of the IMF . Cash Prizes were distributed to winners of Fashion show and Games. Icing on cake for the evening included celebrating the birthday of our humble and the most loved member of IMF, Venkatesh aka Venky and lastly people doing their most favorite one in any of events posing for the camera for photographs by our own in-house talented photographers of IMF, Nihas and Pavan.
Although It’s does appear simple stuff however was very effective in uniting people and dispersing and calling it off the night. Thought crossed my mind, being in India how often do we get this opportunity to celebrate like this? Not really right. Hope this blog post motivates and gets you to feel more Indian on this Independence Day!
Special Thanks to Ankit Agarwal Admin for brain behind this cultural harmony gathering and Harpreet Co- Admin for supporting him and all those who took time out to volunteer themselves for making it most memorable day in the life of Qatar Journey.
Jai Hind! Here’s wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day again! Some extracts below from the speech for all of us to always remember our purpose and what truly a Freedom means:
“Let’s celebrate the freedom of not only growing up in free India, but to live free life.
“Indian Meetup has paved the way of living the life in Qatar for many as they feel home away from home as one Family”.
